Today Marnie and myself attended a great presentation by the Orillia Chamber of Commerce on Social Media and your business. The presenter was Melyssa Lipsey an Online Marketing Analyst from Georgian College who did a great presentation and I think she convinced everyone in the room about the importance of incorporating Social Media in their companies marketing strategies. One very important fact that was refreshing to hear was that she did not advocate doing away with other conventional forms of advertising but to instead use Social Media to augment the existing strategies that a company had in place.
From our first hand experience using Social Media to promote the 2010 Battle of Britain Air Show we can confirm that utilizing these strategies and others does in fact work. In this case their was a very short advertising window to get the word out about the show and the organizers had a targeted audience that a typical shotgun approach would make very expensive and time consuming. In this case we used a number of aviation forums, blogs, online Radio and Google AdWords to reach their targeted audience on the web and then we supplemented this with a Billboard campaign and conventional radio in the last 4 weeks to bolster local ticket sales. Combined of course with good weather and a great backdrop the show was a success, greatly owing to the use of Social Media on the web.
Check back in the next day or two for more details on what was covered in Melyssa's presentation.
